Chelsea really did pursue Roma star, Belgian international

Antonio Conte has revealed that Chelsea really were interested in Radja Nainggolan.

They face Roma in Champions League action this week, and Conte’s has confirmed that the Blues went after the Belgian international in the summer of 2016. He has also been pursued by Inter.

“Yeah, in the past we tried to buy him but now Nainggolan is Roma’s player and I have great respect for him and for Roma, and also great respect for my players,” Conte said in a press conference.

What he didn’t say was that he tried to hijack Roma’s attempted signing of him in 2014, back when he was Coaching Juventus.

“It’s not right to speak about another team’s players,” Conte continued. “I think he’s a great player, for me he’s one of the best midfielders, but he’s an opponent.”

The Blues Coach also praised Roma: “It’s a good time to play again, but you know very well that the Champions League is a very tough tournament and we have to be attentive because Roma are a great team.
