Exclusive: Atletico Madrid, EPL clubs wanted Inter star performer

Inter sensation Milan Skriniar could have gone to Atletico Madrid this summer, we can confirm.

Our sources tell us that the Colchoneros’ talented sporting director, Andrea Berta, was very enthusiastic about recruiting Skriniar, who had done reasonably at Sampdoria, as well as Coach Diego Simeone.

Instead, the Madrid side found itself blocked by a transfer ban, and Inter paid a value of €15-20  million (part of the fee was Gianluca Caprari), a price seen as excessive by some.

Yet the 22-year-old has since succeeded at the San Siro, playing at consistently strong levels and was even complimented by Coach Luciano Spalletti, who said that “Skriniar will be requested by all the top European clubs, he’s a very strong defender with great margins for improvement.”

West Brom were also interested in him, as were a host of Premier League clubs: his agent saying earlier this summer that “We have to decide what to do, because there are other offers. As well as Inter, there are also offers from Spain and England."
