Exclusive: Former VFL Bochum defender set for move

Croatian defender Damir Grgic is set to join Latvian giants Spartak Jurmala from Slovenian outfit Rudar Velenje.

A product of the famed VFL Bochum youth academy, Grgic is a central defender by trade and is now set to move onto a new challenge as his contract at the Velenje-based outfit is on the verge of running out.

Amidst interest from a host of other clubs, Grgic has decided sign with Latvian giants Spartak Jurmala, who will play in the Europa League next season. The club is set to take part in the preliminary round of the Europa League in the upcoming campaign.

Velenje finished seventh in the Slovenian league table in the 2016-17 campaign and Grgic made as many as 25 appearances for the club from central Slovenia, scoring one goal. The Croatian is capable of playing in the central midfield and even as a striker because of his height and physicality. Not just that, but he can also left-back when the need arises.

He had offers from two Romanian clubs, out of which one happens to Gaz Metan Medias. Apart from that, Grgic also had a substantial offer from an Iranian club as well.

Grgic has traveled to the Polish city of Gdansk to join up with his new teammates on their pre-season campaign.
