Just like Ventura is with Italy, Allegri is entirely to be blamed for Juve loss

A united Italian media corps hit out strongly at Gian Piero Ventura after Italy’s elimination from the World Cup play-offs earlier this week. The Azzurri will miss the World Cup for the second time in the country's history and the former Torino boss was rightly regarded as the person responsible for the debacle.

At the centre of the critique against Ventura’s poor coaching of the Italy squad, lay the omission of Lorenzo Insigne from the return leg against Sweden. The Napoli star is probably the most talented Italian player at the moment as well as one of the best dribblers in the country.

His skills would have been useful to cause Sweden's defence all sorts of problems but Ventura opted not to even sub him on during the clash at San Siro.

Insigne’s Italy snub seems pretty similar to Allegri’s decision to bench Paulo Dybala against Sampdoria today. Juventus recorded a 3-2 defeat that, does not begin to explain how much Juventus struggled against the blucerchiati.

Juventus went 3-0 down in the second half before Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala netted two goals in the space of two minutes in stoppage time.

Allegri did not start Dybala and only subbed him on in the second half, after Sampdoria’s opening goal. Dybala is without a shadow of a doubt Juventus’ most talented player and although the Old Lady conceded two goals after his entrance on to the pitch, the Argentinian player remains the technical leader of the bianconeri and just like Messi at Barcelona or Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid he should always be played from the very first minute.

True, Allegri needed to rotate players as Juve will face Barcelona in a crucial Champions League clash on Wednesday but it is also true that top clubs always play their top stars, regardless of their fixture list.

Allegri got the starting line-up completely wrong although Juventus played very good in the first half and Dybala should have been on the pitch from the very first minute. This is not the only reason why Juventus faced defeat at the Marassi today but it’s one of the main reasons behind Juventus’ defeat as the Bianconeri now trail Serie A leaders Napoli by four points. Just like Ventura on Monday, Allegri should have started his best player today but didn't.
