Europe’s top football institution UEFA has decided to open disciplinary proceedings against AS Roma as the club’s fans were singing racist chants in their Champions League game against Chelsea, according to reports.

The proceedings have been opened on the suspicion that the Giallorossi fans insulted and jeered Chelsea’s former Roma defender Antonio Rudiger, who was playing at centre-back on Wednesday evening at Stamford Bridge. These chants were made as soon as the German defender came in possession of the ball.

UEFA officials will meet with the organization’s Ethics Committee on the 16th of November to take a further look at the case and also investigate a similar case involving the Rome based club that saw Lazio travel to the capital city and similar racist chants were made.

Roma will take the field once again against Antonio Conte’s Blues on the 31st of October, which is around one and a half week on from today.
