AC Milan, Leonardo: ‘We never thought of changing Gattuso’

After under-pressure Milan head coach Rino Gattuso’s press conference today, ahead of the clash between the team and Spal on Saturday, club director Leonardo spoke to CalcioMercato.com about the current situation at Milan:

‘We never thought about changing Rino, we are trying to fix a situation that started in a certain way: today we are running for our goal, to arrive in the first 4. Today we are there: then what Rino can say on the level of pessimism is the fact that there is a machine still to be fixed. The club knows that we are living in this dry-spell and it requires cooperation and union from all of us. There is also a bit of emotion, it takes understanding of this moment to adjust things slowly and return to that level, which will not be buying ten players to back to what we can be.

‘Starting from this we must make decisions, it is a normal thing that everyone must do, we can not think that today Milan is a champion and that it can take everything, it will not be so, for a number of reasons: Financial Fair Play, Juventus now, there are so many choices to make, this is the situation: it's not just reducing the coach's choice, there are so many things to see, then the choices will be made based on the moments we are experiencing: today it's delicate for the results, we need to give a signal and we did not succeed, it takes a signal of energy, to be there.

“Paqueta? Meanwhile he must go every three days to play a game that conditions the judgments. The Milan world must really embrace a reality, the reality is that Milan has been in difficulty for many years, not today. This difficulty must be understood, we must understand how to do, say and communicate, but it will be gradual.”
