Atletico handed boost as Inter target Man U star to replace potential departure

According to what has been reported by Sky Sport, Inter Milan are preparing an assault for Manchester United right-back Antonio Valencia. Valencia has a contract expiring with the Red Devils in the summer and he, at this point, does not look like he will be extending it. The experienced Ecuadorian has been eyed up by Marotta as a potential replacement for Croatian defender Sime Vrsaljko, who only joined the club in the summer of 2018 but is already linked with a return to former club Atletico Madrid - after failing to fully settle in Italy.

As Valencia's contract expires in the summer, he is available on a free agent and Inter are able to negotiate with the defender and his representatives at this point, with January 1st being the first possible date of free transfer negotiations between players and foreign clubs. Therefore, Atletico can get excited about the prospect of Vrsaljko's return - whilst Inter work hard to try and secure a deal for United's right-back.
