Buffon reveals the opponent who almost convinced him to retire

Gigi Buffon is probably the most iconic goalkeeper in the history of football. The 2006 Italy World Champions spent 17 years at Juventus before joining Psg last summer.

Despite turning 41 this year, Buffon is not thinking about retirement even though there is one opponent who almost convinced him to call it a day with football. Buffon has been facing many sons of his former team-mates in the last few years, including those of Lillian Thuram and Enrico Chiesa: “I saw Kephren (Turam) on the bench when we played against Monaco. It was nice to face the sons of my former team-mates. I am so much linked with all of them, still today. Playing against them is a joy”, Buffon told Eurosport.

“When I faced Enrico Chiesa’s son (Federico), I was confused. It was the first time I was playing against the son of one of my team-mates and that’s when I thought that maybe it was time for me to give up with football”.
