Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri hints about move for Inter target Barella

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has dropped a big hint about the club possibly signing Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella in the ongoing January transfer window.

Sarri was talking to reporters ahead of Chelsea's Carabao Cup semi-final first leg game against Tottenham and he was asked the Blues' willingness to bring Barella to Stamford Bridge.

He said:  "I don't want to speak about players of other teams of course. If Cesc goes of course we will need a replacement. Now with the midfielders we are in trouble I think because I don't know the situation of Loftus, if it is serious or not.

"Without Cesc we are only 5 so we are in trouble. We need a replacement of course."

Barella has heavily been linked with a move to Chelsea this winter, with Inter also after him and not willing to give up the chase for the Italian. This season, Barella has again impressed for Cagliari, scoring once and performing consistently in the Serie A in 18 appearances for the club.
