Conte could take over at Chelsea if Mourinho is sacked

According to reports from England, the current Italy National team boss Antonio Conte could take over at Chelsea in case Josè Mourinho is sacked by the West London club.

The Portuguese manager has started this third season in his second spell at Stamford Bridge very badly, as the Blues are hovering five points above the relegation zone, sitting in 15th place in the Premier League table.  Things went from bad to worse earlier this week, when Stoke City eliminated Chelsea from the Capital One Cup on penalties, preventing  Mourinho’s side to access the tournament’s quarter finals.

As we previously reported, Mourinho was handed an ultimatum from the club’s owner Roman Abramovich: in case Chelsea do not beat Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool next week-end, the Portuguese manager will be sacked.

Under the circumstances, Chelsea are believed to have approached the former Juventus manager Antonio Conte in order to replace José Mourinho at Stamfrod Bridge.

It is no secret that the 46-year-old is eager to take over a club team after EURO 2016, which is why an eventual move to Chelsea does not appear likely before next summer. According to Conte’s own words, his only commitment right now is to Italy and EURO 2016.

As Juventus fans are doubtless aware of, were Mourinho to jump (or be pushed) in the near future, Conte has already proved that he can move very quickly indeed.
