Exclusive: Chelsea star reaches agreement with Monaco and snubs AC Milan move

Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas has reached an agreement with Monaco and is set to join the Ligue 1 giants in the January transfer window, our transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano can exclusively reveal.

AC Milan had opened talks to sign the Spaniard but the Rossoneri could not match the Blues' asking price for the Spanish midfielder. AC Milan had offered to sign the player on loan with an option to buy, whilst the player had been offered an 18-month contract.

Monaco, on the other hand, are going to sign the player on a permanent € 10 million deal with Thierry Henry who has offered the former Arsenal star a five-year deal.

Leonardo tried to sign Fabregas until the very last moment but Chelsea only wanted to sell the player on a permanent deal and the Rossoneri's doubts about making Tiemoue Bakayoko's move permanent at the end of the season didn't help negotiations between Chelsea and AC Milan.

Fabregas' Monaco move will be official once Chelsea sign a new central midfielder to replace the former Arsenal and Barcelona man.
