From Spain: 'Real Madrid orphans of Ronaldo but Messi still champion of the year'

Five months after his farewell from Madrid, Spain continues to talk about Cristiano Ronaldo. It is precisely the Portuguese star who is conquering almost all the front pages of the Iberian newspapers.

"Orphans of Cristiano," AS wrote, pointing out the lack of effectiveness of Real Madrid in the attack after the departure of Ronaldo. "Only Costa-Griezmann (8) have scored fewer goals than Bale-Benzema (10) in the league among the great clubs in Europe. And in the meantime, the Portuguese scores a double and becomes top scorer (14)."

In Catalonia, however, the challenge is highlighted at a distance between Barcelona's leader Messi and CR7. In terms of goals, the Argentine ended the calendar year with 51 goals, while the Juventus star scored 49. Mundo Deportivo celebrated this achievement: "Leo Messi ends the year as the top scorer, surpassing CR7 by two goals. Meanwhile, the first page of Sport is more explicit, showing Messi laughing in front of Ronaldo: Messi champion of the year, he is the king of the goal," they wrote.
