Juve, Agnelli discusses plans for Super Champions League and announce new Uefa competitio

The words of Juventus owner Andrea Agnelli echoed through the footballing world this morning: “As part of the ECA (European club association) we have a joint vision with UEFA”.

These words come after reports in recent months that Europe’s elite clubs were considering a breakaway into a Super League which would see them leave all their domestic divisions behind to play solely against top opposition.

Agnelli’s willingness to find an alternate solution to keep UEFA happy has resulted in him giving a firm ‘no’ to the Super League plans. Instead, it is reported that the year 2024 will mark a new age in European football, with the possible introduction of a Super Champions League, to be run by UEFA.

Speaking with Uefa's President Ceferin during a press conference, Agnelli said: “Today is an important day for football. We have just signed a document that will stretch our commitment with Uefa until 2023. The meeting was in program before all the leaks. Eca and Uefa want to continue to work together and go beyond 2024 when we will revise some of our objectives.”

“Eca and Uefa have been working together throughout the entire 2018 to set up a third European competition whose introduction must be confirmed by the commission in December. If it will be approved, we will have s new competitions starting from 2024. We look beyond that date. Our mission is to change the game fixtures at a European level. We’ll also think about the transfer windows. Football plays a crucial role in Europe. We want to work to unite football fans and give more harmony to the entire system.”
