Juventus - A mystery called Hernanes

Anderson Hernanes de Carvalho Viana Lima, commonly known as Hernanes, the prophet. The nickname was given him by a Brazilian journalist –namely Laifert Tiago – because the player was always using at least one quote from the Bible in every post-match interview when he was a Sao Paulo player.

The ‘prophet’ is struggling at J Stadium this term, even more than during his time at Inter. Something that only a few would have predict last summer, when he joined the Bianconeri in the deadline day. Even if it was clear that the Brazilian is not even comparable to the likes of Mario Goetze or Julian Draxler - two former Juventus targets – Hernanes was at least expected to rack up more than only 737 minutes in six months time.

What it’s even worse – by the way – is that the former Lazio star has not even scored a goal or registered one single assist in that time. Three yellow cards and one red are all that he’s been able to produce so far. Really not enough for a € 11 million signing.

Massimiliano Allegri has sidelined him after his (and Juventus’) terrible start to the season. It’s worth adding that Hernanes’ playing time has been tragically dropping after that the manager decided to change Juventus’ system to 3-5-2, playing Paul Pogba, Claudio Marchisio and Sami Khedira on a regular basis with Juve that eventually snatched 15 straight wins in Serie A after Allegri’s decision.

The 30-year-old’s contract is worth € 2.7 million a year and expires in 2018. Allegri will bench him also against Bologna and Bayern Munich, while his last appearance in Serie A was against Chievo (31st of January 2016) when he came off the bench for the last 20’ minutes of play.
