Liverpool warned as Pep eyes Serie A bargain to replace Mendy

If reports from Mundo Deportivo are to be believed, Pep Guardiola and Manchester City have identified Napoli left-back Faouzi Ghoulam as a possible replacement for the injured Benjamin Mendy, who is out for the season.

The injury to Mendy has left Guardiola without a proper left-back and the former Barcelona boss has been forced to make do with playing central midfielder Fabian Delph at left-back and a need is being felt to bring in a proper left-back in this winter.

It is believed that the first bit of contact was made when City played Napoli earlier this week in their 2-1 win over Maurizio Sarri’s men in the Champions League. And the men in Blue are willing to offer a fee in the region of 5 million euros.

The fact that Ghoulam’s current contract at the club ends next summer would make Napoli fear that they don’t lose their player on a free. And they’d be happy to see City hand them 5 million to acquire their left-back’s services before his contract expires.

Liverpool are also interested in acquiring the services of the Algerian.
