Man United's future left-back plays for Benfica, and costs €51m

Jose Mourinho didn’t just get a win in Lisbon in midweek: he may well have found his left-back of the future.

The man in question? Alex Grimaldo of Benfica, who is reported to have a release clause worth 57 million.
With Matteo Darmian failing miserably of late and Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo still absent, United are asking Ashley Young and Daley Blind to fill in at the back.

Record now claim that Mourinho - who managed his Red Devils to a 2-1 midweek win over Benfica - has given the green light to approach Grimaldo.

The 22-year-old played very well in midweek, and is a former Barcelona graduate. He wasn’t the player who got the most publicity, with teenage debutant Mile Svilar being consoled by Man United’s players after his blunder allowed the Red Devils to win.

Grimaldo has a deal until 2021, and denied links in January to both Juventus and Manchester City, who were both reported to be interested in him.
