Milan: Montella may only have two matches left

  • Matthew Klimberg
Despite the storm that swept through Europe last night, Milan has decided to confirm its trust in manager Vincenzo Montella after their goalless draw against AEK Athens. Reportedly, despite the public show of trust, the relationship between the manager and executives from the San Siro has deteriorated recently.

Milan has lost three consecutive Serie A matches, and their goal of Champions League qualification next summer seems to be in grave danger. Now, after their embarrassment against Athens, it appears their next two matches against Genoa and Chievo Verona will have a large impact on his future tenure with the club.

Carlo Ancelotti has publicly said he’s uninterested in the position. Former Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel is interested, but not sold on the position. Walter Mazzarri and Paolo Sousa seem to be the most likely successors should Montella be pushed out the door. However, even they have serious doubts about the position.

Most likely, Milan legend, and current primavera manager, Gennaro Gattuso would be an immediate solution. The feared midfielder has publicly stated, in the past, that he’d love to coach his former club. While it may only be on an interim basis, he may have that opportunity should Milan fail to get their desired results before the November international break.
