Transfer news: Furious Madrid open door for Inter to sign midfield star

In the summer, one of the most talked about topics was Luka Modric. The experienced Croatian midfielder captained his national team at the World Cup in Russia, where the Croats finished second - losing 4-2 in the final against a much stronger, on paper, France side.

After these exploits in Russia, and as a result of winning yet another Champions League trophy with his current club, Real Madrid, Modric attracted some interest from abroad. Tottenham Hotspur were named as a potential return for the Croatian yet Inter Milan quickly claimed pole position and pursued Modric.

However, a deal did not materialise - despite the best efforts of the Nerazzurri management to get Modric to cancel his current contract and move to Italy. According to what has been reported by the Corriere dello Sport today, Madrid are furious with Modric and would not be against selling the midfielder in the coming summer.

This will put Inter on red alert who, combined with their new CEO Beppe Marotta, could see Modric within their clutches as soon as June.
